We couldn't be happier to invite you to our LCS Music Day in February to learn a brand new Simon Arnott arrangement of "What is this Feeling?" from Wicked!

One short day to have a lifetime of fun at Sydenham School, London. Expect a strange exhilaration as we sing our hearts out in four part harmony, and learn some fun choreography as though we're dancing through life.

What? Learn a song in a day, with sheet music and teach tracks provided in advance and some choreography taught on the day.

Dress code - Tenors and Leads will be singing Glinda's part so are encouraged to wear pink; Baritones and Basses will be singing Elphaba's part so are encouraged to wear green. Or get as creative as you like with the fancy dress!

When? Saturday 7th February 2026, around 10:30am-4:30pm

Where? Sydenham School, Dartmouth Rd, London SE26 4RD. Parking is available on site. The nearest train station is Forest Hill which has good transport links to central London (it's on the London Overground Windrush line or trains from London Bridge).

Who? The arrangement will be in treble pitch but all are welcome. Children should be older than 11 and accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. Both the child and the parent/guardian will need a ticket. (Please bear in mind that although it will be a fun day, it is aimed at adults and will include full vocal pedagogy explanations. If you have any questions please get in touch.)
We will be led by our esteemed director, Simon Arnott.

How much? Tickets will be £25 (concessions £20, U16 £15). If you would like to come but are unable to due to financial constraints, please contact treasurer@londoncitysingers.co.uk for support.
Event T-shirts will be £15 (optional, size selected at checkout, available in pink or green, women's or men's fit - examples below are women's fit)

Why? This will be a wonderful day of singing and fun and it's for a good cause too! You will be helping our fundraising efforts to get as many LCS members to the International Barbershop Convention in St Louis, USA in June 2026. Thank goodness!

We anticipate the event will be popular, so get your tickets now!

FAQs
How do I get there?

By car: The venue has on site parking and you can drive there without having to go through central London/ congestion charge zone. It is however in the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ). You can check if you would need to pay the £12.50 daily charge for your vehicle here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/ (fully electric vehicles, petrol vehicles registered after 2006 and diesel vehicles registered after 2015 are usually exempt).

By train: if you are travelling to London by train, the nearest station to Sydenham School is Forest Hill. This is served well by regular trains on the Windrush line (London Overground) and Southern trains from London Bridge. To get there from the main stations in London just requires one change (see below):

From Euston:

Take the Northern line to London Bridge then take the Southern train (going towards London Victoria) and get off at Forest Hill. Alternatively, take the Victoria line to Highbury and Islington and then the Windrush line to Forest Hill.

From King’s Cross St Pancras:

Take the Hammersmith and city line eastbound to Whitechapel, then take the Windrush line (going towards Crystal Palace or West Croydon) and get off at Forest Hill. Alternatively, take the Victoria line to Highbury and Islington and then the Windrush line to Forest Hill

From Paddington:

Take the Elizabeth line eastbound (going towards Abbey Wood or Shenfield) to Whitechapel then take the Windrush line (going towards Crystal Palace or West Croydon) and get off at Forest Hill. (Alternatively the eastbound Hammersmith and city line also goes from Paddington to Whitechapel but is not as speedy as the Elizabeth line.)

The easiest way to check your journey is by putting Sydenham School or Forest Hill Station as your destination into google maps. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/KuRbfNYG4SR4GSSy8?g_st=ipc) If you do this on the day when you arrive in London it will tell you the status of the live trains and what platform.

What voice part should I sing?

As the arrangement for our music day is done in the barbershop style, the voice parts for the music day event are a bit different to choral music. At checkout, you will be asked whether you want to sing Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. Broadly speaking, Leads sing the tune, Tenors harmonise above the tune, Basses harmonise below the tune and Baritones fill in the chord. In our Simon Arnott arrangement of ‘What is this feeling?’ from Wicked, tenors and leads will be singing Glinda’s part (and harmonies) and baritones and basses will be singing Elphaba’s part (and harmonies). Please note the arrangement is in the treble range. For more information about barbershop voice parts, check out https://www.harmonyinc.org/dbpage.php?pg=voice-parts

Do I need prior experience of singing barbershop?

No, everyone is welcome to attend. It’s meant to be both a fun and educational day. Perhaps if you love it, you’ll want to join a barbershop chorus!

Do I need to be able to read music?

No, if you learn by ear that is no problem- teach tracks will be provided in advance so you can listen to your part.

Do I need to learn the song in advance?

We will provide a pdf of the music and teach tracks in advance. You will get the most out of the day if you have spent some time learning the song beforehand, but it is not compulsory.

Who did the teach tracks?

The teach tracks were sung by our very own, very talented Helen Whittick. If you’d like her to do some teach tracks for you, please email her directly to enquire: hmtwarner@gmail.com

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, the venue is accessible with step free access and disabled toilets available. There is also on site parking. Please let us know of any accessibility requirements in advance via the questions at checkout, so we know how to assist you on the day. Everyone will have their own seat so if you need to sit down, please don’t worry.

What refreshments are included in the ticket price?

Tea and coffee are included in the ticket price. We will also be selling home baked goods on the day as part of our fundraising efforts.

You can either bring a packed lunch or buy lunch locally. There is a Tesco express a 4 minute walk away, or some nice cafes and pubs within walking distance too. There are no facilities to heat up food.

What size T-shirt should I get?

The T-shirt sizing according to the website is as follows:

We have found however that the L/XL/2XL women’s fit T-shirts are on the smaller side. Please consider sizing up or purchasing a men’s fit T-shirt instead if in doubt.

When will I get my T-shirt?

Your T-shirt will be ready for collection at the registration desk on the day, so you can change into it for the event.
